Eastwood High School Conference Period: 2nd period (9:32-10:17)
No Room: Floater Personal Website: Http://ysalazar.weebly.com
Course Content: The students will be learning the Biology TEKS to have a better understanding of how life on earth is possible, their functions, and prepare the students for their EOC Exam in May. Most of the class time will be lecture/note taking and assignments that are to be completed in class unless told otherwise.
Student Evaluation: Grades will be based on the percentage earned by exams, homework assignments, class work, and labs. Extra credit opportunities will be available for students and will be announced during class and online when it will be available to them. Parents, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me by E-MAIL. The assignments will be available as follows:
Tests: Students will have 1 exam per 9 weeks. Exam will be multiple choice and will be given a review prior to the exam that is based off of everything they have learned during the 9 weeks.
Homework: Studying notes from that day leading to the quiz is a homework requirement. Students should be going home and TEACHING the information learned. This is a requirement to ensure passing of the quiz.
Classwork: Students will always have an assignment/notes to do in class. All assignments are worth 45% of their grade.
Labs: More or less 5 labs in class this year.
Quizzes: Will be given a minimum of 1 Quiz per week. Pop quizzes may also be given to check students are studying through-out the week. Remember quizzes are 40% of your grade. (Fridays 1st semester, and Thursdays 2nd semester) unless told otherwise. This is done in order to have an idea what needs retaught or continue on a new lesson. Students MAY retake Exams within two weeks of taking the quiz (!st semester only (unless student has accommodations stating otherwise) . Each exam will be averaged with the first failed exam. (Ex: 60+100/2= 80) student that got a 60 the first test then got a 100, ended with an 80 average. The more times the student fails the harder it is to raise their grade.
Tutoring: Available before school ONLY (unless prior arrangements are made). I Coach after school and will not be available until AFTER 6pm. Student will NOT BE ALLOWED TO RETAKE A QUIZ WITHOUT COMING TO TUTORING!
Assignment Policy: All assignments must be turned in on time. Each student will know what they missed because missed assignments will be put online on my website. Most assignments will be available to print, and if no printer is available, student will still be able to write answers on another sheet of paper. No excuses for late work! Website can be seen on Cell Phones as well. I need to be contacted ahead of time if student is to miss an exam or lab so I can make time for him/her to make up the assignment.
Students may also TAKE A PICTURE and send it to me on the Remind app so assignment is not considered late.
Late work Policy: Because students may ask for work prior to absence and have access to work online, 25 points will be deducted per day. After 2 days the assignment will NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED AND A ZERO WILL BE GIVEN FOR THE ASSIGNMENT. Students will NOT be able to make up this assignment.
Supplies students will need: Index cards will be necessary for each of the students. Students will need a College Ruled 3 subject notebook, to take notes in, and to use for their journal, and writing materials. The school will not be providing tissue paper for students, so we ask if each student can bring 1 box of Kleenex, and colored pencils for coloring assignments, and colored pens for notes to color coordinate their notes.

Lab Policy: Students will participate in labs as a part of their Biology class. The lab can be a hazardous place if precautions are not taken. Therefore, the science department has established some laboratory regulations. Before entering the lab, students must compete the following:
- Have a lab contract signed by the student and parent/guardian on file with the teacher.
- Wear closed toed shoes and pants.
Academic Integrity: If students are assigned a research paper, they are to quote where they have gotten their info. If there are no quotations and the student is found turning in someone else’s work and claiming it to be their own, it is considered plagiarism. This is a form of not following instructions and is a severe offense and the student will be receiving a zero for their work and will be given an automatic ZERO for their grade. This includes any Exams, Homework, and Quizzes. If students do not follow Assignment/Testing Procedures (Cheating) they will get an automatic Zero, NO EXEPTIONS.

Course Content: The students will be learning the basics of Pathophysiology. This is an introduction to Pathophysiology. Students will learn about different diseases and disorders like cancer, allergies, autoimmune diseases, sprains, strains, and so on. This class is set up to introduce the medical field to your son/daughter. My goal as their teacher is to prepare them for college courses and the medical field if they wish to continue this route. This is a very challenging class that does require hours of studying and discipline.
Student Evaluation: Grades will be based on the percentage earned by exams, homework assignments, class work, and labs. Parents, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me by E-MAIL. The assignments/classwork will be given as follows:
Exams: Students will have 1 exam per 9 weeks. Exam will be multiple choice and/or open ended, and will be given a review prior to the exam (1st semester only) that is based on everything they have learned during the 9 weeks. If we fall behind on our curriculum plan, students may have a quiz for a 9 weeks’ exam or a project.
Homework: Studying notes from that day leading to the quiz is a homework requirement. Students should be going home and TEACHING the information learned. This is a requirement to ensure passing of the quiz.
